Matthew 25:14-30
Your perception of God will determine how you produce in life as a Christian and your attitude towards your master will affect how and what you receive from Him.
There are particular talents, characteristics and abilities specifically assigned to you from God that sets you apart from the rest, but one needs to remember that with every talent and gift comes responsibility. God doesn’t give you a gift to play it safe like the servant that went and hid the talent, nor is He a God of comfort zones.
When looking at it with human eyes, it’d appear as if God is unequal and unfair in His distribution of talents and gifts, but carefully analyzing the capacity and capabilities of each, you will realize that God remains fair in everything He does (see Deuteronomy 32:4). The same God who won’t let you be tested beyond your abilities is the same God that won’t give you more than what you can handle (see 1 Corinthians 10:13). So the distribution of gifts is done accordingly (see 1 Corinthians 12:11).
As Christians, we shouldn’t only pray to have more, but we should pray and ask God to give us the substance that will help us produce more with what has already been given to us. Also, one needs to remember that having more doesn’t mean being efficient; as one can have more and still be inefficient. Cultivate and multiply whatever you have, even if it may be little in your eyes. It will be asked from you, in the measure that it was given to you (see Luke 12:48)
We need to remember that God doesn’t give you things just for you. What you have and who you are is not for you but for someone else (see Peter 4:10-11). Acknowledge that you’re just the manager of what God has given you and that you don’t own any of it. The moment you begin to see what you have as yours is the moment you begin to see yourself above others and boast in yourself (see 1 Corinthians 4:7). Always remember to keep yourself humble and remember that God is the giver of the gifts (see James 1:17)
God wants an interest in everything He’s given us, so wasting what we have and what we’ve been given is when we don’t use it for the glory of God; as everything we have is meant to give glory to God (see 1 Corinthians 10:31). God is not who your thoughts think He is, but He is who the Bible says He is. The way you see God will determine how you relate to Him; you can see Him as a wicked master or a loving father, and that affects your ability to produce.
God won’t come back for the seed but He’ll come back for the fruit, so focus on what you’ve been given and the purpose it carries, and you’ll become productive; as your congratulation isn’t given to you based on how much you had but on the fact you did the work you were assigned to do with the little that you had. It pleases God when we are productive with the gifts we have. The servant that multiplied the five talents and the servant that multiplied the two talents, both got the same compliment.
For everything that’s been entrusted to us, we will be accountable for how we managed it. We need to move away from comparison, envy, and jealousy because those will only hinder our productivity. Instead, we should see what we have as an investment from God and multiply it for the glory of God.
Prayer:
- Ask God to help you give Him glory in everything that He has given you.
- Ask God to help you be faithful in the small things that He has given you.
- Ask God to help you focus on what He has given you so that you stay away from envy and jealousy
- Ask God to make of you a good steward of the things that have been entrusted to you.
